Can I get compensation if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
Asked by Anonymous · Answered 05 Feb 2026
Airlines are generally required to provide passengers with specified facilities and compensation depending on the circumstances of the cancellation or significant delay — such as advance notice given, alternate flight arrangements, refund options, and, in certain cases, a fixed compensation amount, particularly where the airline itself is responsible (as opposed to genuinely unavoidable causes like severe weather).
Beyond the airline's own regulatory obligations, if you suffered additional, quantifiable losses — such as a missed non-refundable booking or event — you can pursue a consumer complaint seeking compensation for that specific loss as well, in addition to whatever the airline's standard policy already provides.
Keep your ticket, boarding pass or booking confirmation, and any communication from the airline about the cancellation and reasons given, since these will support your claim. Airlines often have a specified internal grievance process you're expected to go through first, before escalating to a consumer complaint or the aviation regulator if you remain unsatisfied.
