What can I do if a courier or delivery company loses my package?

First, check the courier company's own terms of service, since they often specify a liability cap for lost packages (sometimes quite low unless you specifically purchased additional declared-value insurance), which affects how much compensation you can realistically expect through their own claims process.
File a formal complaint with the courier company through their grievance mechanism, providing your shipment tracking details, proof of the package's value (invoice or receipt for the contents), and any correspondence confirming the loss.
If the courier company's response is unsatisfactory, or they're relying on an unreasonably low liability cap that wasn't clearly disclosed to you at the time of booking, you can escalate to a Consumer Commission, alleging deficiency in service — commissions have, in various cases, looked beyond overly restrictive fine-print liability caps where they weren't genuinely and fairly brought to the customer's attention. Keep all your shipping documents and correspondence organised, since this will support whichever route you pursue.
