MACT (Motor Accident Claims Tribunal)

A specialised tribunal set up to adjudicate compensation claims arising from motor vehicle accidents, following a simpler procedure than ordinary civil courts.

MACT proceedings are designed to be more accessible than a regular civil suit, with claimants generally not required to pay court fees, and the tribunal empowered to award compensation, interest, and in appropriate cases, additional amounts for hit-and-run cases through a dedicated compensation fund.

Appeals from a MACT award go to the High Court, though only in limited, specified circumstances.
