Provisional Attachment (PMLA)
A temporary order freezing or seizing property suspected to be proceeds of crime, made by the Enforcement Directorate pending confirmation by an Adjudicating Authority.
Provisional attachment prevents a person from disposing of or dealing with property believed to be linked to money laundering while the matter is investigated and confirmed, and must be placed before an Adjudicating Authority for confirmation within a specified time.
An affected person can contest the attachment before the Adjudicating Authority, and further, before the Appellate Tribunal, if they believe the property isn't genuinely linked to any criminal proceeds.
