Succession Certificate Law
Succession Certificate
A court-issued certificate authorising a person to collect debts and securities (such as bank deposits or shares) owed to a person who died without a will.
A succession certificate is specifically meant to help legal heirs recover movable assets like bank balances, fixed deposits, or shares of a person who died intestate — it doesn't, by itself, establish ownership of immovable property or settle a broader inheritance dispute.
Banks and other institutions typically insist on this certificate before releasing funds to a claimed heir, precisely because it carries the court's authentication.
