Frequently Asked Questions
Madhubani Court Marriage is a legally recognized marriage performed under secular law, without religious rituals. It is governed by the Special Marriage Act, allowing couples to have a civil marriage that is valid throughout India, irrespective of their religion or caste.
You typically need identity proof, age proof, address proof, and passport-sized photos for both partners. Also required are affidavits declaring marital status and consent, and the three witnesses must provide their identity and address proof as well.
You must file a formal notice with the Marriage Officer where one of the parties has resided for at least 30 days. This notice is then publicly displayed for 30 days so that any person can raise a legal objection to the marriage during this period.
Any person can raise an objection within the 30-day notice period if they believe the marriage violates legal conditions. Lawyers help clients prepare for a hearing, respond to objections, and argue for the marriage to proceed lawfully.
Once the notice period is completed and there are no valid objections, the couple and three witnesses meet the Marriage Officer. They sign a declaration, complete the required formalities, and finally receive a marriage certificate, which serves as legal proof of their union.
