Agreement to Sell

A contract in which the seller agrees to transfer property to the buyer in future, on fulfilment of agreed conditions like full payment.

Unlike a sale deed, an agreement to sell does not itself transfer ownership — it only creates a right for the buyer to have the sale completed once the agreed conditions (usually payment of the balance amount) are met, after which a sale deed is executed.

It is commonly used where the transaction is being completed in stages, such as under-construction property purchases or where financing needs to be arranged first.
