Encroachment
The unauthorised occupation or extension of use onto land or property belonging to another person, or onto public land.
Encroachment disputes are common between neighbours (such as extending a boundary wall) and also involve unauthorised occupation of public or government land, which authorities can act to remove through specific administrative or legal processes.
A property owner facing encroachment can seek removal and, where applicable, compensation for the period of unauthorised occupation.
