A forum where pending court cases or pre-litigation disputes are settled or compromised amicably, with the resulting award treated as final and non-appealable.
Lok Adalats provide a quick, informal way of settling disputes — particularly those that are essentially about a compromise, such as compoundable criminal matters, motor accident claims, or bank recovery cases — with no court fees typically charged, or fully refunded, on settlement.
An award passed by a Lok Adalat is deemed a decree of a civil court, final, and binding, with no appeal available against it.
