Mutation of Property
The process of updating land revenue records to reflect a change in ownership, following a sale, inheritance, or gift.
Mutation updates the local revenue or municipal records to show the new owner's name — it doesn't by itself create or transfer title, but it is important for paying property tax correctly and for the new owner to be officially recorded for administrative purposes.
Buyers are generally advised to get mutation done promptly after a sale deed is registered, to avoid future disputes or confusion in records.
