Relinquishment Deed

A document by which a co-owner gives up their share in a jointly owned property in favour of one or more other co-owners.

A relinquishment deed is commonly used among family members — for instance, a sibling giving up their share in inherited property in favour of another sibling — and, like other transfers of immovable property, requires registration to be effective.

It differs from a gift in that it specifically extinguishes the releasing party's existing share, rather than creating a fresh transfer from one distinct owner to another.
