Cashless Claim (Health Insurance)
A health insurance claim process where the insurer settles the hospital bill directly with the network hospital, without the policyholder paying upfront and later seeking reimbursement.
Cashless claims are processed through the insurer's network hospitals, requiring pre-authorisation, and significantly reduce the financial burden on a policyholder during a medical emergency compared to a reimbursement claim.
Disputes can still arise if the insurer only partially approves the cashless amount, leaving the policyholder to pay the balance and, potentially, dispute it later.
