Election Petition
A petition filed before a High Court challenging the validity of an election result, on grounds such as corrupt practices or improper conduct of the election.
A losing candidate or, in some cases, a voter can challenge an election result through an election petition, alleging grounds like bribery, undue influence, or improper counting of votes, seeking to have the election declared void.
Such petitions must be filed within a strict, short limitation period after the election result is declared, and follow a specialised procedure given the unique nature of election disputes.
