Maintenance of Parents
The legal obligation of children to provide financial support to their elderly or dependent parents who are unable to maintain themselves.
Beyond the general maintenance remedy available under criminal procedure law, specific legislation for senior citizens provides a simplified, faster process for parents to claim maintenance from their children, including the ability to have a maintenance tribunal, rather than a full civil suit, decide the matter.
These provisions also allow parents who gifted property to a child, on the promise of being cared for, to seek to have that transfer revoked if the child fails to provide the promised maintenance.
