Child Custody Law
Parenting Plan
A detailed arrangement, often agreed between separating parents, specifying custody, visitation schedules, and decision-making responsibilities for their child.
A well-drafted parenting plan reduces future conflict by clearly setting out practical arrangements — where the child will live, holiday and vacation schedules, and how major decisions (education, healthcare) will be made jointly or by one parent.
Courts often encourage or require parents to attempt to agree on such a plan through mediation before proceeding to a contested custody hearing.
