Public Information Officer (PIO)
The designated officer within a public authority responsible for receiving RTI applications and providing the requested information within the prescribed time.
Every public authority must designate PIOs to handle RTI requests, and a PIO who unreasonably refuses a request or delays without valid grounds can personally face a penalty imposed by the Information Commission.
Applicants submit their RTI request directly to the relevant PIO, along with the prescribed nominal fee.
