Section 125 CrPC Maintenance

A maintenance remedy available to a wife, children, and parents against a person with sufficient means who neglects or refuses to maintain them, regardless of religion.

This is a fast, religion-neutral maintenance remedy available before a magistrate, allowing a wife (including in some cases a divorced wife who hasn't remarried), children, and even aged parents to claim maintenance from a person who has the means but refuses or neglects to support them.

It operates independently of, and in addition to, any maintenance claim available under a spouse's specific personal law.
