Statutory Auditor

An independent chartered accountant appointed to examine a company's financial statements and confirm they present a true and fair view of its financial position.

Every company is legally required to appoint a statutory auditor, whose independent report gives shareholders and other stakeholders confidence in the accuracy of the company's reported financial position.

An auditor who is found to have acted negligently or fraudulently in certifying a company's accounts can face regulatory action and personal liability.
