Anticipatory Bail Law
Surety
A person who undertakes financial responsibility to ensure an accused released on bail appears in court as required, forfeiting the bond amount if they fail to do so.
A surety essentially vouches for the accused's appearance, and courts often require the surety to have property or financial standing within the relevant jurisdiction, to ensure the bond genuinely provides meaningful assurance.
If the accused fails to appear as required, the court can forfeit the surety's bond amount, in addition to taking steps to secure the accused's presence.
