Compassionate Appointment
A job offered to a dependent family member of an employee who dies in service or is medically unfit to continue, to provide immediate financial relief to the family.
Many government and public sector employers have schemes allowing compassionate appointment for dependents in cases of an employee's death in service, recognising the sudden financial hardship such a loss can cause the family.
Such appointments are generally treated as an exception to normal recruitment procedures, subject to specific eligibility conditions rather than a matter of automatic right.
