Employment Contract

A written agreement between an employer and employee setting out the terms of employment, including role, compensation, notice period, and other obligations.

A clear employment contract protects both parties by documenting expectations upfront — covering salary, benefits, confidentiality obligations, and grounds and process for termination — reducing the potential for later disputes.

Certain terms, like statutory minimum notice periods or benefits, generally cannot be contracted away even if the written agreement states otherwise.
