Infringement can range from unauthorised copying of software or literary works to unlicensed use of music or images, and the copyright owner can seek an injunction, damages, and account of profits against the infringer.

Certain uses, such as limited quotation for criticism, review, or private study, fall under "fair dealing" exceptions and don't amount to infringement.
