Minimum Wages

The lowest wage rate an employer is legally required to pay workers in a specific category of employment, fixed by the appropriate government.

Minimum wage rates are set separately for different categories of employment and revised periodically, and paying below the fixed minimum wage is a punishable offence regardless of any agreement between employer and employee to accept a lower amount.

Workers denied minimum wages can approach the labour authorities to recover the shortfall, along with any applicable penalty.
