Show Cause Notice (Employment)
A notice issued by an employer to an employee alleging misconduct and requiring them to explain why disciplinary action shouldn't be taken.
Before taking disciplinary action, particularly termination for misconduct, employers are generally expected to follow principles of natural justice — issuing a show cause notice detailing the allegations and giving the employee a genuine opportunity to respond.
Skipping this process can render subsequent disciplinary action vulnerable to being challenged and set aside as procedurally unfair.
