An association of workers formed to protect and promote their collective interests, including through collective bargaining with employers.
Registered trade unions have specific legal rights, including the ability to represent workers in collective bargaining and, in certain circumstances, to raise industrial disputes on their behalf.
The law also protects workers from being victimised for legitimate trade union activity, recognising the importance of collective organisation in balancing bargaining power with employers.
