Article 226
The constitutional provision empowering High Courts to issue writs for enforcement of Fundamental Rights, and also for any other legal purpose.
This provision gives High Courts even broader writ jurisdiction than the Supreme Court's corresponding power, since it covers not just Fundamental Rights violations but "any other purpose," making it one of the most commonly invoked remedies against government action.
Most writ petitions challenging administrative or executive decisions in India are filed under this provision before the relevant High Court.
