Chargesheet Under Investigation
An interim status indicating the police have not yet completed their investigation and finalised the charge sheet in a registered case.
While a case remains under investigation, an accused can still seek anticipatory or regular bail, and the pace of investigation itself is sometimes challenged before courts where there is unreasonable, unexplained delay.
The law specifies default timelines within which a charge sheet should ideally be filed for different categories of offences, with consequences for the accused's custody status if these aren't met.
