Execution of Decree
The legal process of enforcing a court's decree, where the winning party takes steps to actually realise the relief granted, such as recovering money or possession.
Winning a case doesn't automatically mean the relief is received — if the losing party doesn't comply voluntarily, the decree-holder must file execution proceedings, through which the court can attach and sell property, garnish bank accounts, or direct possession to be handed over.
Execution proceedings can themselves become drawn out, particularly where the judgment debtor actively resists compliance.
