Forgery
The offence of making a false document or altering a genuine one, with intent to cause damage, claim property, or support a false claim.
Forgery covers creating a fake document, or dishonestly altering a real one, with the intent that it be used to cause someone injury, to support a claim or title, or to deceive a public authority — common examples include forged signatures, fabricated agreements, and fake certificates.
Related offences include using a forged document as genuine, and forgery for the purpose of cheating, both of which are treated as separate, punishable acts.
