Muslim Law Law
Halala
A practice, now widely discouraged and largely irrelevant given the invalidation of instant triple talaq, historically associated with remarriage after certain forms of divorce.
This practice has been widely condemned, including by many Islamic scholars and courts, as a distortion rather than a genuine requirement of Islamic law, and its relevance has further diminished following legal reforms to the underlying divorce practices it was historically tied to.
Coercing anyone into such a practice can itself amount to a separate legal wrong, distinct from and in addition to any issue with the underlying divorce.
