Interim Custody of Property
A court order granting temporary custody of seized property — such as a vehicle or goods — to a claimant, pending final disposal of the criminal case.
Rather than leaving seized property to deteriorate in police storage throughout a lengthy trial, courts can release it on interim custody to a rightful claimant, usually on furnishing a bond, security, and subject to producing it if required later.
This is commonly sought for vehicles and other property that would otherwise lose significant value if left unused for an extended period.
