Interrogatories
Written questions one party formally puts to the other during a civil suit, which must be answered on oath, to clarify facts before trial.
Interrogatories are a formal fact-finding tool, allowing a party to ask specific written questions of the opposing side, who must respond on oath — helpful for narrowing down disputed issues before the matter proceeds to a full trial.
Courts have discretion over whether to allow specific interrogatories, generally permitting only those genuinely relevant and necessary for fairly disposing of the case.
