Lease Deed

A legal document setting out the terms on which a property owner (lessor) allows another party (lessee) to occupy and use the property for a fixed period, in exchange for rent.

A lease deed spells out the duration, rent, renewal terms, and obligations of both parties, and longer-term leases (typically beyond 11 months, or one year in some states) are legally required to be registered to be fully enforceable.

It creates an actual interest in the property for the tenant for the lease period, distinct from a mere licence, which grants only permission to occupy without transferring any interest in the property.
