Letters of Administration
A court order appointing an administrator to manage and distribute a deceased person's estate when they died without leaving a valid will.
Where a person dies intestate (without a will), or leaves a will without naming an executor, an interested party can apply for letters of administration, which authorises them to step in and manage the estate's assets and eventual distribution among the legal heirs.
The court typically requires proof of the death, the relationship of the applicant to the deceased, and details of the assets involved before granting this.
