Probation
A sentencing option letting a convicted person avoid or suspend imprisonment, subject to good conduct and court-supervised conditions.
Instead of sending a convicted person to prison, especially for a first offence or less serious crime, a court can release them on probation — allowing them to remain in the community under supervision, subject to conditions like good behaviour and periodic reporting.
If the person breaches those conditions, the court can revoke the probation and direct that the original sentence be served instead.
