Public Prosecutor
The lawyer appointed by the government to conduct criminal prosecutions on behalf of the state in court.
A public prosecutor represents the state — not the individual complainant — in a criminal trial, presenting evidence and arguing for conviction where the facts support it, while also being expected to act fairly rather than simply seeking a conviction at any cost.
Serious cases are typically handled by more senior prosecutors, and in especially significant matters a Special Public Prosecutor may be appointed.
