Remand
An order sending an arrested person into police or judicial custody for a specified period while investigation continues.
When police need more time to investigate after an arrest, they produce the accused before a magistrate seeking a "remand" — an order authorising continued custody, either with the police for questioning or in judicial (jail) custody, for a limited period at a time.
The law caps how long a person can be held without a charge sheet being filed, after which they may become entitled to what is commonly called "default bail" if the investigation isn't completed in time.
