Rioting
The use of force or violence by an unlawful assembly, or any member of it, in pursuit of the assembly's common object.
Rioting elevates an unlawful assembly into a more serious offence once actual force or violence is used by the group, and, like unlawful assembly, can result in liability extending to all members sharing the common object, not just those who directly used force.
Police have specific legal powers, including the ability to use force to disperse a riotous assembly, given the immediate public safety concerns involved.
