Test Identification Parade (TIP)
A procedure where a witness is asked to identify the accused from among a group of similar-looking people, to test their ability to recognise them.
A TIP is conducted, usually before a magistrate, to check whether a witness who claims to have seen the culprit can actually pick them out from a line-up of similar people — a safeguard against wrongful identification based on suggestion.
While useful, a TIP is not conclusive proof by itself; courts still weigh it alongside the witness's identification made in open court and other supporting evidence.
