Vakalatnama
A document authorising an advocate to represent a party in a specific court case, filed with the court at the start of the proceedings.
A vakalatnama is the formal authorisation a litigant signs, appointing their lawyer to act, plead, and represent them in a particular case — without it on record, the lawyer generally cannot officially appear or file documents on that party's behalf in that matter.
It is a routine but essential piece of paperwork at the very start of engaging a lawyer for any court case.
