Victim Compensation Scheme

A state-run scheme providing financial compensation to victims of crime, or their dependents, particularly in cases of serious injury or death, separate from any amount recovered from the accused.

These schemes recognise that victims often need financial support regardless of whether or when the accused is convicted or able to pay compensation, and are administered through State Legal Services Authorities based on the severity of the crime and harm suffered.

A victim can apply for such compensation even while a criminal case is still pending, rather than needing to wait for a final conviction.
