Zero FIR

An FIR registered by a police station regardless of where the offence occurred, later transferred to the police station having actual jurisdiction over that area.

A Zero FIR ensures a complainant can register a case promptly at any police station without being turned away over jurisdictional technicalities, particularly important in urgent cases like sexual offences, with the FIR then formally transferred to the correct jurisdiction for investigation.

This mechanism was specifically strengthened after cases where victims faced delay or refusal at police stations citing lack of territorial jurisdiction.
