Absolute Divorce

A common informal term for a final divorce decree that completely and permanently dissolves a marriage, as distinguished from a judicial separation.

Once an absolute divorce decree is granted, the marriage is legally terminated, and both parties are free to remarry, unlike judicial separation, which suspends cohabitation obligations without actually ending the marital status.

Depending on the type of divorce (mutual consent or contested), an absolute divorce decree can be obtained relatively quickly or only after a more extended contested process.
