Attestation
The act of a witness confirming, usually by signing, that they saw a document being executed (signed) by the person concerned.
Certain documents — such as wills — require attestation by a specified minimum number of witnesses to be legally valid, with the witnesses confirming they were present and saw the document actually being signed.
Attestation is distinct from notarisation — attestation is about witnessing the signing itself, while notarisation is a formal certification typically done by an authorised notary public.
