Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA)
A regulatory authority empowered to investigate, prosecute, and penalise unfair trade practices and misleading advertisements, even without an individual complaint.
Unlike Consumer Commissions, which decide individual complaints, the CCPA can act on a broader, systemic level — recalling unsafe products, ordering discontinuation of misleading advertisements, and imposing penalties on businesses and, in some cases, endorsers of false claims.
This gives consumer protection a proactive regulatory dimension, beyond simply resolving disputes after harm has already occurred.
