Class Action / Representative Suit
A single suit or complaint filed by (or on behalf of) a group of people who share the same grievance against the same opposite party.
Rather than each affected person filing a separate case, a representative complaint lets one or more persons sue on behalf of a larger group with an identical interest — often used where many consumers have been affected by the same defective product or unfair practice.
Consumer law specifically allows such complaints, provided the court or commission is satisfied the group genuinely shares a common interest and grievance.
