Deficiency in Service

Any fault, imperfection, shortcoming, or inadequacy in the quality or manner of a service that a provider was contractually or legally required to deliver.

This is one of the core grounds for a consumer complaint, covering situations ranging from a poorly performed repair to a bank's error in processing a transaction, or a doctor's negligent treatment — essentially, service that falls short of what was reasonably promised or required.

Establishing deficiency typically requires the consumer to show what standard of service was expected and how the provider fell short of it.
