Divorce Settlement Agreement
A written agreement between divorcing spouses covering alimony, custody, visitation, and division of assets, typically filed along with a mutual consent petition.
A settlement agreement lets spouses resolve the financial and custodial aspects of their separation by mutual negotiation rather than prolonged litigation, and is usually incorporated into the court's final divorce decree once approved.
Once accepted by the court and made part of the decree, its terms become legally enforceable, similar to any other court order.
