Maintenance Pendente Lite
Maintenance ordered to be paid while a matrimonial case is still pending in court, covering the period until the case is finally decided.
This is the formal term for interim maintenance during litigation — meant to ensure that the financially weaker spouse and any dependent children aren't left without support merely because the case is taking time to be resolved.
Courts typically assess this based on affidavits of assets and income filed by both spouses early in the proceedings.
